nativity

For the first day of our advent calendar I brought out a Little People Nativity set I bought after Christmas last year and put away to pull out this year.  I've wanted a nativity set for under the tree for a little while now, and finally decided it was best to just get the toy version so the kids could play with it...once they are bigger I can get myself a nicer nativity set to put out.

I pulled it out during the day with just Leah at home.  Before I opened it up I asked her what Christmas is about and of course her answer was "Santa".  This set was a good way for me to show her the basic Christmas story in a way she could understand.

She spent the next hour on the floor playing with the people, re-enacting the story I had told her and also making up different stories to go along with the characters.

Her favourite part is the beautiful musical version of 'Silent Night' that plays when she presses down on the angel on top of the stable (or whatever character happens to be on top at the time...sometimes the camel finds his way up there...I don't know how realistic it is to have a camel on top of a stable...).

So now I finally have a nativity set under the tree, although it's not often set up in the traditional nativity scene ;-)
Leah likes to make the angel fly!

  1. we have always loved our LP Nativity. Even my 10 yr old still loves it. I didn't know the newer ones play Silent Night. Our's plays Away in a Manger.
