a garden of my own

After years of talking about it I finally dug up a little garden.  There was a half-hearted attempt a couple of years ago but I didn't dig it out properly and soon after yielding a few cucumbers I was no longer able to find my plants among the weeds (that's bad, right?).  This year I dug out an area, lined it, filled it with nice new triple mix and planted some yummy food.

We have tomatoes, 2 varieties of peppers, squash, cucumbers and watermelon!

Around the other side of the house I planted some raspberry bushes...I know we won't get much (if any) this year but I'm looking foward to lots of fresh raspberries next year.

But just to show you my thumb is still mostly not green, here's a wide shot of the garden with the weeds in the background...yep, still have some serious garden cleanup to do.

Next year's goal?  More veggies planted and make some neat veggie markers I found on Pinterest.

Out front things are growing along nicely too...
Leah checking out the flowers, in her pjs, with her morning apple (ah, the life of a 4 year old!)

My day lillies are blooming

the little tree that could...Jillian's tree she brought home from school and planted all by herself is growing nicely.  I'm sure within 2 years it will outgrow this little garden spot and will be moved to a new home in our yard.
