"mama do it"

Leah is finally speaking in 2-3 word sentences, yay! She has been a bit behind in the speaking department. At her 18 month checkup the ped was a little concerned to hear she had no words. That's right, none, nada, zip. But he wasn't overly concerned seeing as she had no other signs of any problem...physically she was far ahead (walking by herself at 9.5 months!), she made good eye contact, had excellent comprehension of what we would say to her, and was communicating in other ways such as sign language and pointing to objects. So it seemed as if she really just didn't want to talk. Then by age 2 she did have quite a few words. However, still wasn't putting any words together, she was sticking with 1 word sentences.

And now at 26 months Leah has been putting many 2-3 word sentences together! She's been kicking it up a notch for sure. Some of her favourites are "more please" "more milk" "waffle please" "butter, waffle" (put butter on the waffle). Yes, a lot of them tend to revolve around food. She may still be wearing most of her 18 month sized clothing but the girl can eat!

Which brings me to one of her absolute favourites (and sometimes mine) "mama do it". Usually this makes my heart melt, she wants me to help her get dressed, she wants me to lay with her in bed, etc, etc.

However, the funniest one happened this past weekend. Leah had just finished a small box of raisons and proceeded to toss the empty box into the middle of the kitchen floor. When I told her nicely to put it in the blue recycle box she turned and said over her shoulder while walking away, "mama do it". Huh. I told her no, it was Leah's snack, and Leah's job to put the box away. Which prompted a screaming "NOOOO" and she proceeded to start colouring at the craft table. I left the box in the middle of the floor as I finished putting groceries away. After a few minutes she came over and sat in her chair at the kitchen table and asked for 'nack. I said sure, but first you need to put the box away in the blue recycle bin. She protested but finally came over once she realized there would be no snack from mommy until she put the box away. And she added in a look of utter disgust at me while picking the box up...we think the 5 year old has attitude, I have a feeling this little one will show us what real attitude is as she gets older!
