on the road

We started out by driving to Buffalo to spend the night. This picture was taken about an hour into the drive...notice the plastic bag in Leah's hand, she is in her spare travelling clothes because we started out this vacation in true M family style with a child throwing up (this is how we started out our first Disney world vacation when Jillian was 3 years old). Leah came down with something the day before we left but after a trip to the dr and a prescription for antibiotics we decided to keep our travel plans on schedule. Hearing the words "I just threw up" after being on the road for less than an hour weren't fun but after a quick cleanup we were back on the road. The rest of the drive went smoothly and soon enough we were in the USA and ready for our vacation to start.  Leah was feeling back to herself within 24 hours (gotta love antibiotics!).

The next leg of our journey was a train ride to NYC.  We were on the train for 8.5 hours and it really was a great way to travel with the kids. The seating is spacious and the kids were able to get up to move around.  Another benefit to travelling by train?  No baggage limits/fees which you can see came in handy since we didn't exacty travel light on this trip.
a boy, a book and chocolate graham crackers
Kyle enjoyed having a double seat all to himself for the trip...notice the little note he put on the table to keep sisters and parents from bothering him
I had packed a small backpack for each of the kids with new books, activities and snacks...these kept the girls happily occupied for a long time.
Amtrak's free wifi kept Jeff and I happily occupied.
