when you wish upon a star

Leah is at that perfect age for the magic of Disney, she believes and is no longer afraid of the characters (just to clarify...all 3 of my children were absolutely terrified and traumatized after meeting life-size characters until about age 3).

I had told Leah I heard a rumour the princesses were all on vacation at the same time as us on the ship.  Sure enough there was a princess meet in the lobby and Leah was beyond thrilled to put on her Snow White dress to meet each of these lovely ladies.  Jillian is a tad past the dressup stage but still wanted to hug and meet each princess.  The girls each used some of their own spending money to buy an autograph book and carefully selected a colour for each princess and character to sign.

I love the character interaction with Disney because each princess takes time with the girls to chat and make that moment special.

Is there anything better than being 4 years old, dressing up in your Snow White dress and having a conversation with Snow White?  I don't think so.

While we waited our turn Leah spent the time dancing and making a new friend (who she saw throughout the week in the kids club)

photo flashback...here is Jillian in the very same Snow White dress in 2009

  1. Hi there, I found your blog through a friend of a friend's blog. I noticed in her comments that you went on a disney cruise with your food allergic child. I have a son with anaphylaxis to peanuts. While we are able to travel a ton, usually with kitchen facilities, we do love Disney for their allergy awareness and eagerness to accommodate. Can you tell me if you found this same service on the cruise? Were their options for you to eat at ports of call? Was a Dr available if needed. I don't blog so if you have any helpful information I could check back here for your response or send my email. Thanks so much, Kim from Canada

    1. Hi Kim,

My daughter is allergic to tree nuts and sesame seeds. On the cruise they were very accomodating. At our first sit-down meal the servers already had her allergy information and always knew or were able to look up ingredients to see what was safe. We do allow her to have some "may contains" so things like mickey bars she ate and was fine (I knew she'd had them on a previous Disney trip before we knew about her nut allergies). At the buffet restaurants we only had to mention her allergy and we would have a chef walk the buffet with us to point out anything unsafe.

We did have one incident at dinner, I believe a sesame seed from some table bread fell into her soup (kind of our fault, we were lax about other food around her at the table since she needs to eat it to have a reaction). We gave her benadryl and she was fine. The servers, including our head server, were so apologetic and all came over quickly to check on her and make sure she was fine.

We didn't visit the dr on board but I believe there is one available if needed.

For ports we didn't branch out food-wise. On Nassau we only shopped a bit then returned to the ship to eat. Castaway Cay is Disney's own island, the food is just like onboard buffet style. Our third stop was Disney World :-)

Hopefully you get to experience a Disney cruise...absolutely amazing!
